Abbas Akhavan is an established artist and teacher who’s work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally. For his site we wanted to create something simple and elegant that would complement his work and also relay his personal asthetic. Strong alignments and a simple almost neutral palette kept the focus on his stunning work. Southlands Nursery Ltd / 2009Website / HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash and Wordpress

‘Established in 1991, and located in a charming ‘equestrian pocket’ on Vancouver’s upscale westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city. Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their riders go by our gates.’

Thomas Hobbs is a gardener, author, TV personality and co-owner of Southlands Nursery. His work has been featured in a number of professional horticulture and gardening magazines including Garden Design and Martha Stewart Living. This site not only showcases his work but also serves as a platform for him to share his unique point of view. Using HTML as a base with CSS, Javascript and Flash for visual styling 4 Wordpress pages (‘tomspeaks’, ‘just in’, ‘daylilies’ & ‘favorites’) were integrated so that he could update and post content. I think this design successfully combines both style and function to create something distinctively Tom.

james lauder - how to be lovely
How to be Lovely / 2009Website Element / Flash

This project was intended as a quick tutorial for a skin care/cosmetic’s line. The title was taken from the opening song in “Funny Face” staring Audrey Hepburn. I wanted to capture her beauty, style, grace and innocent humour. Classic grey and clean lines frame the main images. The face transitions through each stage with soft cross fades, the majority of this transition work was done in Photoshop by layering clean and make-up looks at different opacities for final shots.
